7 Common Food Myths, BUSTED!

We are taught that to stay healthy, it's as simple as consuming fewer calories and exercising harder, but is this completely accurate? Because science has shown that everyone metabolises the same meals differently, general suggestions will only work for some people. Companies often give nutrition advice that is based on faulty, out-of-date, or slanted research to benefit or endorse their own products.

1. Fat is unhealthy and contributes to weight gain.

The reality is that fat has long been known to play the devil's hand in terms of weight gain or a lack of fitness. However, we frequently overlook healthy fats found in salmon, almonds, avocados, and olive oil. Yes, fats have more calories than proteins or carbohydrates, but fat is a crucial part of a balanced diet! They keep you fuller for longer by slowing down your digestion.

Dietary fats are also an essential component that supplies your body with a significant amount of energy. They make a layer of insulation under your skin that keeps your body and organs warm in cold weather. They also contribute to the generation of hormones and the absorption of nutrients.

2. You need to drink eight glasses of water.

Our bodies are composed of 60% water, and you may have heard that drinking EXACTLY eight glasses of water per day is the healthiest option. However, no study or evidence supports any of the statements that you need exactly eight glasses per day. Everyone has a different lifestyle that requires them to drink more or less water throughout the day. There is no such thing as eight glasses of water for good kidney function or longevity.

Marketing firms developed this method to promote their brands. They not only push us to drink more bottled water but also to buy pricey mineral bottles.

3. Consuming food after 7 p.m. will result in weight gain.

There is no evidence that you store more fat after 7 p.m. or generate an insulating layer of fat overnight. Eating after 7 p.m. is often related to distress, and bingeing at the end of a long and exhausting day is unhealthy. Also, consuming high-calorie, high-fat snacks late at night makes sleeping difficult, which leads to a poor mood and impaired cognitive function the next day.

The weight gained is proportional to the number of calories consumed! To avoid feeling hungry or binge eating, divide your calories evenly throughout the day.

4. Egg yolks are bad for your health.

You may have noticed people who remove egg yolks to encourage healthier eating habits. However, nobody realises these are a "goldmine of nutrients"! Eggs for breakfast provide enough protein and fat to keep you from overeating. This dietary cholesterol does not affect blood cholesterol levels.

5. Red meat is unhealthy.

Is red meat terrible for your health? According to a study, overeating red meat raises the risk of colon cancer, yet everything in life is about moderation! Red meat is high in vitamins, proteins, and minerals. Remember, the hack to not over consuming too much of one food is to keep note of the serving size!

6. You should not eat reheated rice.

Bacteria and other organisms in pre-cooked rice are frequently eliminated by heat. So next time you have some left-over rice, be sure to let it cool for an hour after cooking before preserving it in a sealed container in the fridge. And when reheating it, be mindful that it's wholly heated throughout (and reheat once).

7. Chocolate is the cause of breakouts.

We've all heard that you are what you eat! Our eating habits and the foods we choose to eat influence our health inside and out, as seen by the signs on our faces. However, chocolate has no impact on the face. It's great news for all chocolate lovers out there!

However, cocoa is not the culprit. While it is true that some people may experience a breakout a few days after eating a chocolate bar, the issue in this scenario is more likely to be the sugar, not the chocolate.
